Welcome to the GlobeRiders Cape to Cairo Adventure 2017 Live!Journal!
We did our first scouting of this journey in 2012 and since then we have had two more rides to make sure that we would be prepared for this year’s Cape to Cairo Adventure.
For every tour, we have seen changes, some good and some bad, but most good. Roads have improved and infrastructure has gotten better.
One year one country can be stable and before you know it this can change; we just cannot always predict what will happen. For this reason, it has been very important for GlobeRiders to have local partner that can advise and guide us in our decision of this journey.
If you have come to this page to follow our journey I welcome you and encourage you to ask questions to the group as we progress north.
If you live in the area let us meet and if you have advice and or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Enjoy the stories and pictures from our riders and one day I hope that you too can come and ride the world with GlobeRiders.
This Adventures Live!Journal will consists of three or four Chapters:
- A new Chapter page will be added to this website as soon as we get enough material from the riders. Each Chapter will consist of stories and photos from the road, submitted by participants en route, a sort of travel blog (or travelog) if you will. Chapter Navigation Menus at the top and bottom of each page allow you to quickly jump from one page of the Live!Journal to another.
- When each new Chapter is "published" to the website, we'll send an email newsletter Dispatch, informing subscribers to our newsletters that new content is available in the Live!Journal. Each Dispatch will contain a photo and short summary of the week, and clickable links that will take viewers directly to the relevant Chapters or other pages on our website.
Our Live!Journal gives those of you who couldn't join us this year, to include family and friends of the participants, the opportunity to take a "virtual" tour with us. It also captures and preserves the tour for our participants, creating a scrapbook of their adventure on the web that they can refer to for years to come. And of course, we hope that a select few of you may be inspired to join GlobeRiders on a future adventure.
The "map", seen below, is the real-time Tracking map of the Expedition. The location updates are a live feed from our Garmin inReach SE Satellite GPS Messenger. You can change the map from Road to Aerial Imagery to Topo views and of course you can pan and zoom in/out for more or less detail. You can collapse the Side-bar and Top-header using the gray-arrow buttons to see more map. Anytime you want to return the map to it original position you can simply refresh your browser page.
As always, should you have any questions, comments, requests, or simply want to say "hi" to any of us, all you need to do is click here to send us email.
Come ride the World with Us!
